Questions about Sex Therapy
What is Sex Therapy?
Sex Therapy is regular therapy with added confidence-building around sex. Imagine you spend your whole life hearing confusing messages about a favorite hobby: the best way to do the hobby, what it means about you to do the hobby, or how you should innately understand the hobby. Together, we will clarify what you actually care about related to sex.
How do I know if I need Sex Therapy?
If you are struggling with anything related to intimacy, talking with a sex therapist could be helpful. Even if you are experiencing a new physical limitation, worry you might be broken or aren’t sure what you actually want, sex therapy can help you explore new options for intimacy.
What will a Sex Therapy session look like?
Like any therapy session, you’ll share updates since we last met and determine what’s most important for the hour. We’ll focus on your goals, explore challenges together, and I’ll offer guidance, education, and thoughtful questions. We’ll end by setting a goal or intention to work on between sessions, moving at a pace that feels right for you.
How long does Sex Therapy take?
The length of therapy depends on your goals and circumstances. Some people notice benefits in just a few sessions, while others continue through transitions and relationship changes. We may meet more often at first, then adjust as needed. You’ll decide how often we meet and how long we work together.
What issues do you work with in Sex Therapy?
We can talk about nervousness, discomfort or pain during sex; intimacy before and after childbirth; perimenopause, menopause or andropause; LGBTQ+ issues; kink and vanilla issues; consensual non-monogamy; communication during sex; low or changing desire; difficulty around arousal or orgasm; rebuilding after infidelity or betrayal; healing from sexual trauma; concerns around pornography use and more. We can figure this out together.
You Deserve a Place Where Nothing is Too Awkward to Talk About.
Conversations about sex can feel vulnerable. They can also be incredibly freeing when you don’t have to explain, defend, or minimize your experience.
Whether you’re coming on your own or with a partner, therapy can help you better understand yourself, strengthen communication, and create the kind of intimacy that feels right for you.
When you’re ready, I’m here. Schedule a consultation and we’ll take it from there.
